About Us

Dr. Vitaly Bard obtained his Honours Bachelor of Science in Immunology in 1989 and earned his Medical Degree at the University of Toronto in 1993. He completed his residency in General Surgery at University of Toronto and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1998. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery at McMaster University before joining Credit Valley Hospital as a staff surgeon in 1999. He is also a Lecturer for the University of Toronto Medical School.

Dr. Bard sees patients for a variety of surgical problems including gallbladder disease, hernias, diseases of stomach and colon with a particular focus on the minimally invasive approach to most surgical problems.

When not at the hospital, Dr. Bard enjoys time with his family, travelling, gardening and walking his tiny dog.

Dr. Deepa Kumar completed medical school at The University of Toronto in 1997. Afterwards, she entered General Surgery residency at the University of Toronto and in 2002 earned her FRCSC. Subsequently, she did a two-year Royal College Fellowship in Surgical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery also at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Kumar has been affiliated with Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Partners since 2002. She is currently the Division Head of General Surgery and Medical Director of the Breast Diagnostic Assessment Program. In addition, she is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto Medical School.

The focus of Dr. Kumar's practice includes Breast Cancer and some Benign Breast Disease as well as Benign General Surgery and Endoscopy.

Outside of her surgical practice Dr. Kumar enjoys time with her family, skiing, yoga and baking.

Dr. Burns is an alumnus of the University of Guelph, going on to finish medical school at the University of Toronto. He completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto in 2004 and then went on to additional fellowship training in Surgical Oncology. Awards to his credit include the gold medal in surgery from the University of Toronto, and numerous teaching awards.

His surgical practise is divided equally between complex GI cancer surgery, with a particular focus on laparoscopic GI surgery, and general surgical interests such as gallbladder surgery and hernia repairs.

Outside of work he is an avid Formula One fan and has been noted to have the peculiar talent of knowing at least one line from almost every song ever written.
